The 18th century – continual wars between English and French
The Seven Year´s war (known to Americans as the French and Indian war) 1754 – 1763
France was defeated, tha English kept the territories they had conquered in America.
Not all the colonies came as free people
The first Africans came to America in 1619 (mostly as indentured servants). By 1690
slavery existed in all thirteen colonies.
- The original thirteen colonies fell into three groups:
1. The New England colonies:
Massachussetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire
2. The Middle Colonies:
