Outsourcing
Outsourcing refers to a delegation of operations from internal production to an external entity specializing in the management of that operation. A client organization and a supplier enter into a contract that defines the transferred services. Segments typically outsourced are Information Technology, Human Resources, facilities real and accounting. In some companies customer supports and call center (telemarketing, market research, etc.) are also outsourced.
Advantages: lower firm costs, more efficient use of worldwide labor
Disadvantages: costs of outsourcing which include legal costs of putting together a contract between companies and time spent on coordinating the contracts can be underestimated.
