Every day hundreds of people travel from one place to another for various reasons - to go to work, to go to school, to go somewhere on business and for pleasure. Traveling abroad has recently become very popular. In very seasons of the year, airports, railway, stations, seaports and bus stops are full of people travelling long or short distances.
Before 1989, Slovaks were basically only allowed to travel to Eastern European countries, East Germany, Bulgaria, Romania and the former Yugoslavia. Since Slovakia joined the EU in 2004, travel has become easier. Slovak do not need passports anymore to travel to EU countries, they only need their identity cards. However, there are countries outside the EU which we still need a visa to go to.
