Walter Shandy is Tristram's father. He has a passionate interest in philosophy and intellectual speculation, he chooses a name Trismegistus in honor of his favorite philosopher, for his son. He is somewhat torn away from reality.
Toby Shandy is Tristram's uncle called Uncle Toby. He is an old veteran who takes delight in recalling his past campaigns.
Corporal Trim is Uncle Toby´s faithful and innocent servant.
